“Life something’s can throws you a curves” which can affect your day to day functioning and get you off balance. These experiences can strongly influence the ways you view the world & could shape how you cope in life. Let’s talk about trauma and the trauma treatment using EMDR.

All of us have experienced a number of what is know as “small t traumas” over our lifetimes, Like being or feeling bullied or teased, made to feel ashamed, maybe even loss of a pet, or having friends move away. These “small t traumas” can be upsetting and for example as a result of being teased or excluded from peers, can leave one with a low self esteem, problems with ones self worth, etc. Worst yet are what is know as “Big T traumas” – those events (rape, child abuse, violent acts/victims of crime, shootings victims, murder..) that involve physical harm and/or a threat to our life or physical safety. “Big T trauma” can often lead to symptoms of PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder), Major Depression, Addictions, or self abusive/self harm behaviors.

TRAUMA HURTS It doesn’t matter which kind of trauma you’ve experienced “big T” or “small t”: both can cause you pain and struggles. Psychological trauma is a hidden epidemic. According to SAMHSA Center for Integrated Health Solutions, 90% of clients in public health services have experienced trauma.  Unresolved trauma can lead to problems in ones life (physical, mental, emotional, social and/or financial.)

It’s more common than you might think, have you ever experienced any of these symptoms or know of someone who has? Emotional & psychological affects can include:

  • Shock, denial, or disbelief.
  • Confusion, difficulty concentrating.
  • Anger, irritability, mood swings.
  • Anxiety and fear.
  • Guilt, shame, self-blame.
  • Withdrawing from others.
  • Feeling sad or hopeless.
  • Feeling disconnected or numb.

HELP!!!!!! Can Eye Movement Therapy Help Heal Traumas, PTSD & Anxiety…

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a psychotherapy that enables people to heal from the symptoms and emotional distress that are the result of disturbing life experiences.  Don’t let life break you! EMDR has helped many of my patients. Repeated studies show that by using EMDR therapy people can experience the benefits of psychotherapy that once took years to make a difference. It is widely assumed that severe emotional pain requires a long time to heal.  EMDR therapy shows that the mind can in fact heal from psychological trauma much as the body recovers from physical trauma. Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a fairly new therapy that helps specifically in the treatment of trauma recovery and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Hope this helped!
